About Me

Enthusiastic, driven, & independent.

I'm Lauren, a senior at the University of St. Thomas who is studying the Strategic Communications branch of Communication & Journalism (as St. Thomas fondly refers to as "COJO"). I am also exploring two minors: Business Administration and English.
I was drawn to COJO for its versatile, creative, and inquisitive nature. It encompasses human culture, behavior, and interaction - how intriguing is that? As a naturally curious and extroverted person, these aspects of my major excite me everyday. I have even had the valuable opportunity to engage in research on communications, further exploring the role of communications in history and culture.

My two minors seamlessly play on my both Type A & creative personality. Business Administration provides exposure to the overarching logistics of a business, from my accounting class to my marketing class. English is my inner nerdy bookworm showing through; those classes are my opportunity to fine tune my writing skills and delve deeper into my love for literature.

When I'm not in class, my energy and zeal channel into singing for Cadenza, playing guitar, reading, and spending time outdoors hiking, biking, or camping.
OUR SERVICES

CADENZA
Music has always been a focal point in my life, whether it's singing in choir throughout high school, collecting Billy Joel vinyl records, or currently singing in Cadenza, the all-female A Cappella group at St. Thomas.

I auditioned for Cadenza my freshman year of college and have been a dedicated member of the group ever since. I began as a giddy freshman singing among wise, cultured upperclassmen.
After a semester in Cadenza, I noticed that we were missing a key component to growth: strategic marketing. As a student with a mind for marketing and whose studies emphasized the importance of brand promotion, I suggested the creation of a role that encompassed these areas for Cadenza, which was eagerly accepted by the members of the group.
Due to my skill set and earnest push for implementation of the role, in January of my freshman year, I was graciously voted into the new role as Social Media & Marketing Executive of Cadenza. This strengthened commitment to Cadenza thrilled me; I was able to show off Cadenza's talented women while growing my own tangible marketing and media skills. I created ads for our concerts, managed the social media platforms, and developed the #CadenzaCountdown to stimulate chatter around our upcoming concerts. This hashtag campaign has been used every semester since, highlighting each member of Cadenza and engaging fans as well.

In spring of my sophomore year, I was voted by the members in the group as the new President of Cadenza. This past year in my first year as the president, my leadership abilities have been challenged, stretched, and enhanced. I plan all events, fundraisers, and concerts for Cadenza. As the president, I have participated in our growing successes and exposure to the public. This growth has led to exciting opportunities: performances at the Minnesota State Fair, the creation of a music video, and the addition of two more concerts per year.
In addition to managing all performances and events, I regularly meet with the executive board to oversee rehearsals, marketing techniques, and bonding activities. I also train new members of the executive board, including the future president who will reside after I graduate.
Beyond the organization and management of Cadenza, I have learned the intricacies of communication, especially among 15 diverse women who look to me, their peer, as the leader. I've discovered new ways to address ideas, resolve conflict, and articulate directions. This role has emphasized the importance of transparent communication and teamwork to express our shared passion: music.
